This posting contains a convertion into TrueType format of the
Alexandria font.  What follows is a StuffIt 1.5.1 archive containing
the Alexandria PostScript font as it was originally received by me
(bitmap, downloadable PostScript file(s), and perhaps documentation
and/or AFM files).  I've added a suitcase file which contains a
TrueType version of the font, created by FontMonger 1.0.3.

This version replaces the one I back in April.  The original PostScript
version of Alexandria has an anomaly in the character "Q". The
character works fine with PostScript interpreters which fill characters
using the odd/even rule.  Interpreters which use the nonzero-winding
rule fill in the entire interior of the letter... FontMonger uses
nonzero-winding, and thus generated a completely blacked-in "Q" in its
TrueType conversion.

I corrected this problem manually, using FontMonger's ability to import
and export Adobe Illustrator files.  This posting contains a corrected
TrueType font, and the original (anomalous) PostScript font.

After quite some time of downloading, it's about time to upload something.
A while ago, I downloaded the Black Chancery font, originally a bitmap
font by Doug Miles. It had been converted to TrueType by Dave Platt.

Unfortunately, even though I liked the font very much, it was of limited
use, since it did not have all the accented characters, which are much used
here in Mexico. However, last week a friend let me use Fontographer 3.5 on
his machine, so I was able to try and complete the font. Feeble attempts,
no doubt, for I am not a professional typographer, but I've tried to reuse
the elements already on the font (such as the tilde, acute & grave accents,
etc.), so as to avoid clashing with the style of the font.

Since I won't have the opportunity to truly complete all the missing
characters, it will have to remain as-is, unless some kind soul undertakes
the task. Enclosed you'll find the binhexed, stuffed folder containing
the bitmapped, TrueType and Postscript font files, as well as the Fontographer
workfile and Dave Platt's Readme.

Caveats:  According to the font attributes listed by Fontographer, it is in
the public domain; if it is not please let me know. The bitmaps I've included
are in 9, 10, 12, 18, 20, and 24 points, although the original was in 24
points; Fontographer did a good job of regenning (especially the smaller
sizes) and the font is quite readable, even at 9 points, although it is a
heavy font. Finally, I added "Xtd" to the original name, Black ChanceryXtd,
to reflect that it has been extended with extra characters; it will,
however, appear as "Black Chancery" in the menu when installed (goes to
show that it is the first time I've gotten my grubby hands on Fontographer).

P.S. A request to all typographers developing fonts out there: please complete
     the character sets, at least to include the accented and the n-tilde
     chars. All of us who have to use these characters to properly write our
     native language will be very grateful (this is also true of European
     users, mind you).

On 5 January, Ulf Dittmer asked how to print the command (splat) key.
I'm certain that many will tell him that it is a control-something combo
in Chicago font. I've never had any luck with that. However, I did find
a Chicago Symbols font on the Washington Apple Pi bulletin board that has
only four things: splat, closed diamond, check mark, and closed apple. I
can't recall if I found it as a TT font or converted it via Metamorphosis
from a type 1 or 3 original. Nonetheless, here is the TT version. If any
of y'all have had the same bad luck I've had with the certain-but-not-
always-right advice to do a control-whatever in Chicago, ChicaSym works.

Here is a set of four Cyrillic TrueType fonts created by Bill Tavolga.  The
styles are the normal, bold, italic, and bold-italic, in the usual Roman
(serif) style. The fonts are freeware and have been translated by me from
the original Windows 3.1 format. I've left the original documentation
intact except for translating the keyboard layout sheet to a Macintosh
MicroSoft Word file. The keyboard is arranged in the AATSEEL recommended
layout.

If you want the original file for Windows, at the moment it's available by
anonymous ftp at ftp.cica.indiana.edu <129.79.20.84> filed as

Please note, I am not the author of this font. I am just submitting
a Truetype port of "DavysRibbons." I originally found only a
Type 1 Postscript font. There was no Truetype version, contrary to the
Readme docs. The font was ported by Fontmongger (glad I bought it!).

"DavysRibbons" is an uppercase-only font that looks like letters set into
paper scrolls. It is a banner type ribbon of simple characters. It's pretty
snazzy! I use it for (non-profit) graduate dormitory event flyers (were I
was the social chairman). Enjoy!

Subject: External, Powerbook Hard-Drive Parking (Q)

Well...wouldn't want a week to pass without a FAQ, would I??  I've checked
the list of FAQs and found no reference..so here goes:  I have dropped the
$40 and purchased an external SCSI cable for my Pwbk 170 and now have my
Rodime 210e drive hummin' away.  The question is, how do I best park the
heads and shut down this drive for travel.  When it was hooked to my
"stationary" Mac, the heads were simply parked automatically at shutdown.
I'm curious if this is still the case (I am,of course, running system 7)
and if I simply switch it off after the Pwbk shuts down.

As a follow-up (sounds like a political press conference, eh?), what is the
status of the drive if I unmount it from the desktop by dragging it's icon
to the trash.  If I were to turn it off after unmounting, would I court
head-media problems?  Is any of this brand specific?

Oh, BTW,..this is not in my manual..

Recently I posted the sample version of a Type 1 PostScript font called
Furioso that I executed. This is an updated archive containing the screen
bitmaps & Type 1 PostScript printer font as well as the new TrueType
suitcase. I do not use TrueType yet, so I need feedback on whether the
sample works or not. I used Metamorphosis Professional 2.0 (from Altsys)
to convert the font from Type 1 format. The registration fee is $12 & in
return you get the full font (upper & lower case & numerals & lots of
punctuation & other special characters) in Type 1 & TrueType formats.
Those who already registered will shortly get the TrueType format
in the mail.

If you like the font, please register according to the instructions
in the registration file enclosed.

Subject: FUTURE.SIT.HQX

Here's the TrueType version of the Future font. Hope it works
fine. I test printed it to my StyleWriter and it looked good,
so I wouldn't think there'd be any problems.
There isn't much involved in converting the file with FontMonger
at all. You open a copy of the font, select TrueType (etc.) in
the little pop-up menu on the keyboard diagram (like KeyCaps),
and then save. You can set what bitmap sizes are generated as
well, in addition to being able to modify & customize the font.
A number of the fonts at MacArchive are Caps fonts, so I copy
the caps to the lowercases, then convert those to small caps.
You can even create combination characters & fractions (either
with horizontal separator line or diagonal 1/x). If there are
any others in Type 3 that you'd like to have converted, let me
know. I'm in the (slow) process of converting what I've got to
TrueType anyway, so it wouldn't be much trouble.

This posting contains a convertion into TrueType format of the Genoa
font.  What follows is a StuffIt 1.5.1 archive containing the Genoa
PostScript font as it was originally received by me (bitmap, downloadable

added a suitcase file which contains a TrueType version of the font,
created by FontMonger 1.0.

The PostScript version of this font is actually two fonts... GenoaRoman
and GenoaItalic.  In the TrueType version, I've merged these into a single
font... Genoa... with both plain and italic styles.

the word for klingon in the klingon language. It is a really funky font,
and a must-have for any and all star-trek fans.

can see what this font looks like by checking out the middle of the
third PICT, just about the middle of the column.

For those of you who haven't downloaded font-preview, I highly recommend
it.  It allows you to see what all the fonts look like before you waste
time downloading them all.

This is a rendering of a typeface drawn by Rudolf Koch in 1922 for
Klingspor. It is know as RKoch AntiquaS or RLocarnoS or REveS; REveS is the
name given it by ATF when they issued a version of it.  For some
inexplicable reason, this beautiful typeface has yet to see the light of
typographic (PostScript) day.

This is not a complete font: there is upper and lower case, numbers, and
some punctiation.

Greetings!  A while ago people posted notes saying they were looking for
a scalable music symbols font.  Well, this is a good one.  It has clefs,
flats, sharps, all notes in quarter, half notes, perhaps much more.  I haven't
had time to really fiddle much.  All symbols are created with staff lines
behind them so you can actually use this font to write music.  Comes out
VERY nice.

This is a truetype font, compressed with compact pro 1.33.  As always, I
suggest you download font-preview from sumex-aim in the info-mac/font
directory before you download any truetype font.  It will show you what the
fonts look like before you waste time downloading.

Hello all. This is the second attempt at posting this to sumex-aim.
Please Note: I am NOT the author of this font. I have merely used
Fontmongger to translate this Postscript font into TrueType form.

ParkHaven is a very nice cursive font that the author supposedly
modeled on his very neat (IMHO) handwriting. It's very snazzy. One
possible problem, that may just be the fault of TrueType conversion,
is the lack of a space key. Another font's space may be substituted.
I'm not sure about fixing it, because I didn't want to change the
author's original version (if you get his permission, I'd be willing
to help then). Hope you like the font... And any credits or cash
should of course go to him... I just did the conversion for a friend,
but I don't keep many fonts around on my powerbook.

Persian (Farsi) font.  I received the font in Windows TrueType format from
Tooraj Enayati ([e-mail]) and converted it using
Chris Reed's TTConverter 1.3 and Ares Software Corp. FontMonger 1.0.5.  It
is a very simple implementation--it does not contain font management
software (i.e., that would change the letter's form depending on whether
it's at the beginning, middle, or end of a word), but it works beautifully!
 It is a hqx'd self-extracting Stuffit file.

It is a really cool font.  All letters are caps, but the 'lowercase'
letters are smaller caps than the 'upper-case'.  Each letter is made
up of a lot of little lines side by side.  This gives eachletter a
sort of optical-illusion look.

The first one is the Sedimentary font for all of you Geologists.

The second one is a set of arrows. You have 72 orientations - each 5 degrees.

They both were originally included in the SEDIMENTARY.SIT package.
I turned them into TrueType with the consent of the author.

TechGrapha is a font containing symbols useful for plotting data in
programs like DeltaGraph.  All of the basic symbols are constructed to
cover equal area.  The center of each character is the alignment point
for that symbol.

This package includes bitmap, type 1, and truetype files as well as the
fontographer source.  The bitmaps are not cleaned-up, so you might
want to print a sample sheet to help you in selecting symbols.

TechGrapha is free.  If you like it please send a picture postcard to the
author at the address listed below.  You may distribute TechGrapha
provided you don't make money doing so and include all of its files.

This is the truetype font TNGMonitors.  It is a nifty little font which
looks like the lettering on star trek:TNG monitors, hence the name.

the bottom right-hand corner of the third PICT.  If you haven't
downloaded font-preview, you're probably wasting a lot of time downloading

This is a truetype font I found called Trains.  Surprisingly enough,
it is a small font which has all sorts of pictures of trains.  Locomotives,
freight cars, cabooses, old engines, and so on.  Probably many other surprises.
I personally haven't taken much time to explore the whole font.
